A Day At The Races is a Rock Album by the English Rock Group Queen. It is the first album that the group produced Themselves. It is one of Two Albums they named after Marx Brothers Movies. The other one being A Night At The Opera.

Somebody To Love is the Hit Single from this album. It was Also Freddie's Favorite Song. Like Bohemian Rhapsody, the major hit from their previous Album. This song has a complex layering of vocal tracks. It is a Rock Ballad on which, Mercury, May and Taylor create the impression of a Gospel Choir. The lyrics, combined with the gospel influence create a song about faith, desperation and soul searching. While at the same time staying true to their Guitar Driven Style. The Single was released in the U.S. Dec. 10, 1976. It reached #13 on the U.S. Charts.
Tie Your Mother Down is a Riff Driven Rock Song. Featuring one of Rock Musics most recognizable Guitar Riffs. This song is a long time Favorite of their Fans. And is still one of the Bands most requested Songs. The Single was released March 1, 1977. It reached #49 on the U.S. Charts.
This is one of my Favorite Albums. Maybe not solely for the content of its music. (I wasn't Disappointed) But this is the first Album that I ever bought, because I wanted to Get Me Some Tunes. Music that was my own. Not something I listened to because my parents listened to it. I did some extra chores in the yard, and around the house. And when the album came out... I was ready.
Does anyone remember back to the day when a Radio Station would get Demo's of Albums soon to be released? Every now and again they would play little snippets from them, getting us their Loyal Listeners excited about the Albums impending Release. And then when at long last the Album was released. Running out to your favorite Record Store, buying the Record and listening to it over and over and over, until you knew every word in it.
Listening to the Radio with the hope of catching your favorite song from that Album. And watching that Record slowly Climbing the Charts, until it hit No. 1. Or what ever spot, if any it would hit on said Chart. I really miss those days. Now a days, they are already at Number One, 15 minutes after they hit the stores. It's just Wham Bam, good song, and off to the next mission.
I guess I may be a bit on the Old Fashioned side. But to me, that is really taking alot of the fun out of waiting for your Favorite Band, to release the new music you have been waiting almost a year to hear. But enough reminiscing. This is a good Album... If you are a fan of the 70's stuff and you haven't heard this...... I recommend it.
