Email Providers Review
There are several email providers out there in cyber space and we've experimented with many of them. Here we'll share our thoughts and opinions with you in hopes of helping you find the one most suited for your needs. Each provider will be rated on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 being awful & 10 being excellent. This page will be updated regularly, so check back often.
Mymail.ro My Mail is a company based out of Romania. The good thing about them is that you can register with them from any wap enabled phone. The bad thing is that their technology isn't advanced as other providers and they have times when the system is down. Another problem is with some mail that you receive you get a compile error and cannot open it. If mail ends up in your junk folder, there is no way to move it to your inbox if it is in fact NOT junk mail. Another thing I dont like, is at the bottom of every message you send, it says "this message was sent from a mobile phone from mymail.ro". Not to mention the fact that mail can sometimes be delayed for several days and sometimes doesn't get there at all. The technology of this company is sub standard and I have yet found a way to contact them for tech support. I give mymail.ro a 3.
Acasa.ro Acasa is also a service of the Romanian company that owns mymail.ro. All the pros and cons that apply to mymail.ro also apply to Acasa. They are the same company, Just a different name. I give acasa.ro a 3.
Gala.net Gala.net is a provider based out of Russia. I like Gala better than the Mymail and Acasa, because their technology seems a little better. I've never had trouble opening any mail most of the time, except I have found that there are some accounts that cannot receive any mail at all and the sent messages will not save in the sent messages folder. There is also no junk mail folder, so all mail ends up in your inbox. They also have made some changes lately that make it nearly impossible to register with them. The technology of these foreign providers just is no match for the providers in America. I give Gala.net a rating of 4.
Everyone is familiar with Yahoo! email as being one of the top email providers in the world. But here`s something you may not know about Yahoo!. There have been many complaints that yahoo! customers will all of a sudden not be able to send email from their mobile device. It works fine from their computer, but not from their wireless phone. It gives them a message that says "Your message cannot be sent at this time, please visit help.yahoo.com for assistance."
Countless people have gone to the help site & asked for assistance via email & would get an automated reply stating that the wheels are in motion & you will be hearing from a customer care representative soon. But you never hear from them ever! If you call Yahoo! on the phone, they will not help you unless your a paying customer. Yahoo! may have many features & a nice design, but their customer care department is non existent. Not to mention that you cannot open a new account via a wireless device, it must be done through a computer. Normally I would rate them with a 9, but due to the fact that their Customer Service is non existent, I must rate them with a 5.
Mailmate.co.za Mailmate is an email provider based out of South Africa. The good points- you can register from your mobile device, they have a chat room, you can view video & photos right from your wireless device, & you can create folders to store your documents in.
The bad points- Their server seems to go down frequently. We`ll rate them with a 7.
MSN/HOTMAIL
MSN & Hotmail are both services provided by Microsoft Corporation in Redmond, Washington USA. Microsoft is truly one of the leaders in internet technology & is making great strides in perfecting their product. The down side is that although you can access your email account from a wireless device, you cannot register with one. If you want to open an account with either of these services, you must do it from a computer.
In 2005 & the first part of 2006 (much like Yahoo! still is) you would often not be able to send outgoing mail from your wireless device due to a technical glitch. When you would contact their technical support for assistance it would often take several weeks to get the issue resolved. But in the latter part of 2006 Microsoft restructured their tech support department & now when you contact them for assistance, you get it in just a matter of a couple days. Unlike Yahoo!, you can even get assistance by telephone & Microsoft treats you like a valued customer regardless if you`re a payng customer or not.
MSN & Hotmail have been completely redesigned with loads of new features & the customer service is by far THE best over any other email providers. This is what makes Microsoft the leader in web & email & I give MSN & Hotmail a victorious 10.
G-mail Gmail is a service provided by the San Francisco bay area company `Google`. They just recently launched their Gmail sevice a few years ago when the company began expanding into other areas besides just being a search engine.
Gmail provides all the regular services like spam filter, & multiple folders like everyone else, but there is one feature on their email that Yahoo! & MSN don`t have & I really like this one. The hyperlinks work on mobile devices. When someone sends you an email that contains hyperlinks, you can click on them & go directly to the site. MSN, Hotmail, Windows Live, nor Yahoo! have this feature. On a P.C. the hyperlinks work fine, but Gmail is the only provider that allows them to work on mobile devices. Although I have heard people say that you can even open a Gmail account from a mobile device, I have yet to see that. But it is usable an a mobile device once you have an account established.
Gmail allows you to chat with your contacts & they are constantly increasing your mb memory so you`ll never have to delete old messages if you dont want too. Although I`ve had very little need to contact their customer service department, they do seem to have their tech support in working order. On a scale of 1-10, Gmail gets a 10.
