The Film, based on true events, takes place in 1989 when Mexican Police unearth 12 bodies in the town of Matamoros. They find that the corpse's are minus Brianis and Spinal Cords. It is later determined that a Gang of Drug Lords are practicing their own form of Santeria. A combination of Religions combining Catholicism and various other African Religions, to form their own Voodoo Hybrid.
3 College Buddy's (Brian Presley, Rider Strong, Jake Muxworthy) decide to go to Mexico for a Weekend of Fun, before heading back to their homes and maybe never seeing each other again. (Which in Hindsight, may have been the best Idea) But Hey........, What kind of movie would that have made??
Unfortunately for our 3 Friends, In their first night of carousing, they stumble right into the middle of one of Santilian's (Beto Cuevas) Ritual Slayings. Good Hearted Phil, while trying to save the damsel in distress. Is Kidnapped and Tortured. Leaving the other 2 compadres to Fin for themselves, while they try to escape from the Hellish Nightmare they have found themselves trapped in.
After finally making their way back to civilazation, Ed and Henry enlist the help of Valeria (Martha Higareda) and a broken down, local detective (who a couple of years earlier, watched his partner get butchered by members of Santilian's Cult.) To try and help this New Victim, escape his Ritual Slaying on the Night of the New Moon.
Movies with the Ring of Truth to them... Are usually, if not the most Disturbing, then the most Henaous. This one was no exception. It got me to thinking. I have been in my Fair Share of Sticky Situations over the years. Nothing to this extreme. But I have absolutely NO Idea just what in the Hell I would do in a stiuation like these three got themselves into. I can't even imagine finding myself in this kind of predicament.
This was a Good Movie. It was very well Written. The Acting was more than adequate. One Special Kudo's to Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings) He has a small but very unforgetable role in this film. Boy can he play a Bad Guy. This role was so completely differnent from that of Samwise, you wonder how he can pull it off...
This one gets a Thumb Up. Review by
